When we get into power as a party we need to take a close hard look at how these Crown corporations are run. That will require some serious auditing and we should start with ICBC. Government is notoriously bad at running businesses and I am sure that we will find that we need to start thinking of getting government out of the business of business. We can make sure that there are safeguards and some oversite for the corporations and services that British Columbians depend on but I believe that if each of these entities has to make sure they are self-supporting they will be run more efficiently and that will benefit British Columbians.

So let’s look at ICBC. I believe we need to open up the rules to let companies compete with ICBC. We should start slowly but competition is a good thing it forces companies to be more efficient and offer to their customers what they need and want. ICBC just tells everybody what they get they never ask what you want. Now sure you get to make some choices here and there but why not a package deal if you have more than 1 vehicle, or a vehicle and some recreational vehicles. If you have a good history and own a Quad and a truck let’s look at offering people a package tailored to what they need. The best way to do this is let the market decide and that means other insurance companies need to be able to sell more products that ICBC currently has a monopoly on.
